Glacier Hikes

Many Glaciers can be accessible from the road system in Alaska.

Grewingk Glacier - Located across from Homer, part of the Harding Ice Fields.  Enjoy a great hike up to Grewingk Glacier lake, with great views of the glacier and icebergs floating around the lake.  Only a 30 minute water Taxi ride across Kachemak Bay. Two different trails lead to the lake. Ask our staff which trail would best suit you and water taxi details for drop off and pick up.  Camp over night if you wish and enjoy miles of hiking trails.

Exit Glacier - Just a short drive outside Seward, you can walk up to Exit Glacier.  View the glacier from down on the wash or make a moderate climb to view the glacier up close or the Harding Ice Fields Trail.  The Harding Icefields Trail is a all day hike at least 6-7 hours for quick climbers, longer if you hike slower.  Trails starts with a few switch backs then a gradual climb, many see black bears in the area, so be aware!  Plan on about 3.5 hours up to the top and about 2.5-3 hours down to the parking lot.  Bring water and snacks.

Portage Glacier - Located about an hour south of Anchorage on the Seward Hwy, you can get a look at Portage Glacier from the road in a couple of places, without going out on a boat.  The Tunnel to Whittier is just past Portage Glacier and is two miles long through the mountain. One way traffic opposite the rain schedule, so plan on your times to get through.

Matanuska Glacier - North of Anchorage on the Glen Hwy, spectacular views of Matanuska Glacier can be seen from the hwy.  Take a private guided tour up to or on the glacier.  You will enjoy the vastness of the area and well worth the drive from Anchorage.

Glacier Dog Sled Tours

Glacier Dog Sled Tours - Take a helicopter ride from Seward up to the top of he Harding Ice Fields and ride a dog sled.  Next to a Bear Viewing Tour, it's probably one of the coolest tours you can do in Alaska.  The views are nothing less than spectacular !
